Work
I take health technology the whole distance: from a model in the lab, through a clinical study, past the regulator and into the Canadian market.
Ventures
Regulatory, import and market-entry partner for medical device manufacturers entering Canada.
- Obtained the company's Health Canada Medical Device Establishment Licence (MDEL) and CBSA importer registration; acts as Canadian importer of record for foreign manufacturers, including an investigational device for a university clinical study.
- Built a market-intelligence database joining Health Canada licences, Statistics Canada trade data and customs tariffs to size Canadian markets for clients.
- Advises manufacturers on Canadian regulatory pathways (Health Canada, ISED), including connected wearables.
Clinical trial services company that runs studies for sponsors under ICH-GCP.
- Runs clinical trials with budgets approaching $1M and owns the business end to end: budgets and finances, staffing, regulatory and ethics compliance, and strategy.
- Manages multi-centre studies for sponsors, from start-up and ethics board submissions to site coordination and data management under Good Clinical Practice.
- Leads development of Cryo-Shield, a cold-climate wound dressing for people with diabetic foot ulcers, with overseas manufacturers.
- Runs a lean, project-based model that scales a bench of contract research staff to each study.
Care-navigation platform connecting patients with interdisciplinary care teams.
- Advises leadership on clinical program design and AI-enabled care pathways.
- Contributes to the Doctor Dash platform and to AI models for interdisciplinary care.
Career
-
2018 to now
Senior Research Coordinator
Zivot Limb Preservation Centre, Calgary
- Runs program evaluations and quality studies for a multidisciplinary limb-preservation clinic; showed lower major amputation rates (first author, 2019) and lower regional hospitalization rates (co-author, 2024) after its care model was introduced.
- Secured a $40K grant for the centre's data and outcomes work.
-
2019 to 2025
Doctoral Researcher, Machine Learning
University of Toronto and KITE Research Institute, Toronto Rehab, University Health Network
- Built a multimodal AI system that classifies diabetic foot ulcer healing phases from images and clinical data.
- Engineered a longitudinal pipeline that forecasts healing trajectories and next-visit outcomes.
- Developed UlcerGPT and diffusion models for synthetic wound images; wrote the multi-site protocol behind the Zivot dataset.
- Taught Foundations of Biomedical Engineering (BME205) and Coding for Biomedical Engineers (BME1478), 2023 to 2025.
-
2018 to 2019
Research and Development, Engineering
Orpyx Medical Technologies, Calgary
- Engineering team member developing a pressure-sensing medical device, contributing to product development and quality assurance.
- Coordinated and analysed data for the device's randomized clinical trials.
-
2018 to 2018
Data Analyst
Department of Clinical Neurosciences, Foothills Medical Centre, Calgary
- Processed and analysed clinical data from 1,000 epilepsy patients.
-
2016 to 2018
Graduate Researcher, Quantitative MRI
University of Calgary and Foothills Medical Centre
- Developed a new T2 relaxometry fitting algorithm for quantitative MRI.
- Implemented it with physicists at the University of Campinas, Brazil, on Philips and GE scanner data.
-
Undergraduate
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Control of Miniaturized Systems Laboratory, University of Maryland
- Worked on magnetic control of nanoparticles for targeted drug delivery.
